What is Tooth Extraction?
Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the jawbone. While preserving natural teeth is always the first priority, extraction becomes necessary when a tooth is too severely decayed, fractured, or infected to be saved — or when it needs to be removed for orthodontic or other reasons.
Dr. Aparna at Yashashree Dental Family Care performs both simple extractions (for visible teeth) and surgical extractions (for impacted or broken teeth) using modern techniques and proper anaesthesia to ensure the procedure is as painless as possible.
Benefits of Tooth Extraction
- ✅ Relieves pain from severely damaged or infected teeth
- ✅ Prevents infection from spreading
- ✅ Creates space for orthodontic treatment
- ✅ Quick procedure with local anaesthesia
- ✅ Smooth recovery with detailed aftercare guidance
The Treatment Process
Examination & X-Ray
Dr. Aparna examines the tooth and takes an X-ray to assess the root structure and surrounding bone before planning the extraction.
Anaesthesia Administration
Local anaesthesia is injected around the tooth to completely numb the area. You will feel pressure but no pain.
Loosening the Tooth
Using dental elevators, the tooth is carefully loosened from its socket by gently rocking it back and forth.
Extraction
Once sufficiently loose, the tooth is removed using forceps. Surgical extractions may require a small incision in the gum.
Socket Packing & Aftercare
A gauze pack is placed over the socket to control bleeding. Detailed aftercare instructions are provided for pain management and healing.
